أكد رئيس لجنة الثقافة والإعلام في مجلس محافظة البصرة الدكتور عقيل طالب الفريجي أن اليوم العالمي للتنوع الثقافي من أجل الحوار والتنمية، الذي يصادف 21 أيار / مايو من كل عام، يمثل فرصة مهمة لترسيخ قيم التعايش والانفتاح والتفاهم بين الشعوب، وتعزيز ثقافة احترام الاختلاف بوصفه مصدر قوة وإبداع وتقدم.

وأشار الفريجي إلى أن العراق، بما يحمله من عمق حضاري وتاريخ إنساني وثقافي متنوع، يمتلك مقومات كبيرة لبناء نموذج وطني متماسك يقوم على المواطنة والشراكة والتكامل بين جميع مكوناته، مؤكداً أن محافظة البصرة تمثل واجهة حضارية وثقافية مهمة للعراق في محيطه العربي والإقليمي.

وأضاف أن المجتمعات التي تنجح في تحويل تنوعها الثقافي إلى مساحة للحوار والتعاون هي المجتمعات الأكثر قدرة على تحقيق التنمية والاستقرار، داعياً إلى تعزيز دور الثقافة والإعلام والمؤسسات التعليمية في نشر قيم التسامح والوعي الوطني والإنساني.

وأكد الفريجي أن العراق اليوم بحاجة إلى خطاب جامع يعزز الهوية الوطنية، ويدعم حضور البلاد الثقافي عربياً وإقليمياً، بما ينسجم مع تاريخها الحضاري ومكانتها بين الشعوب.

On the Occasion of the World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development – May 21

Dr. Aqeel Talib Al-Furaiji, Chairman of the Culture and Media Committee in the Basra Provincial Council, affirmed that the World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development, observed annually on May 21, represents an important opportunity to promote the values of coexistence, openness, and mutual understanding among peoples, while reinforcing respect for diversity as a source of strength, creativity, and progress.

Al-Furaiji noted that Iraq, with its rich civilizational depth and diverse cultural and human heritage, possesses significant potential to build a cohesive national model based on citizenship, partnership, and integration among all its components. He stressed that Basra stands as a vital cultural and civilizational gateway connecting Iraq with its Arab and regional surroundings.

He added that societies capable of transforming cultural diversity into a space for dialogue and cooperation are the most capable of achieving sustainable development and stability, calling for stronger roles for culture, media, and educational institutions in spreading the values of tolerance, national awareness, and humanity.

Al-Furaiji further emphasized that Iraq today needs a unifying discourse that strengthens national identity and enhances the country’s cultural presence on both the Arab and regional levels, in line with its historical and civilizational stature among nations.
